Fingerprint Technician Training in Colorado

The responsibilities of a fingerprint technician in Colorado are fingerprinting, photographing, and in certain circumstances collecting Buccal DNA Samples of persons that have been charged with criminal offenses and are in custody.

The fingerprint technician will process all aspects of sex offender registrants, fingerprint public applicants and new employees, and accept and account for fees related to fingerprinting duties (fingerprinting is done electronically or with ink as necessary) and also perform computer checks utilizing local, state, and national computer systems; maintain various police department databases; provide coverage of the National Crime Information Center/Colorado Crime Information Center (NCIC/CCIC) computer terminal as needed; and provide expertise and guidance to citizens, outside law enforcement agencies, and other staff members.


Basic Requirements for Fingerprint Technician in Colorado


The background check for this position includes a polygraph examination.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • Two years of full-time responsible clerical experience.
  • Must be able to accurately type 35 w.p.m.
  • Possess, or obtain within six months of hire, CCIC OSN certification from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Two years of responsible clerical experience in a criminal justice or law enforcement setting.
  • Prior fingerprinting experience and/or training.
  • Experience working with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), NCIC or CCIC.
  • A skills assessment will be administered as part of the selection process for this position.


Fingerprint Technician Training in Colorado


Current Latent Print Certification or Tenprint Fingerprint Certification issued by the International Association for Identification will substitute for the required training and experience.
