Fingerprint Technician Training in Nebraska

In the State of Nebraska the fingerprint technician classifies, compares, and interprets criminal and applicant fingerprint impressions using the Henry Classification System and AFIS, and learns to process latent fingerprint evidence. They use the Henry system to verify, confirm, or eliminate print matches, and analyzes identified comparable prints and communicates findings.

They enter criminal justice and non-criminal justice fingerprint cards and verifies image records. They may be able to called to testify in court so they must know the proper procedure for testifying. They also conduct training in the proper techniques for obtaining quality fingerprints and provide technical assistance to agencies using computerized fingerprint input devices.

Fingerprint technicians also examine and process latent print evidence using special fingerprint powders, chemicals, lasers, and/or photography for identification purposes. In addition they learn the techniques for searching for fingerprint evidence at crime scenes. They also receive, record, maintain, and return evidence submitted for print analysis to ensure the chain of custody is properly maintained at all times. Lastly, they Perform routine maintenance on AFIS hardware and other equipment used in the fingerprint identification process.

Basic Requirements for Fingerprint Technician in Nebraska

The basic requirements of the fingerprint technician in Nebraska is a high school education or GED. Previous instruction experience (preferably with law enforcement) is desirable. Familiarity with NCIC and Henry classification system is desirable. Training in AFIS or FBI training in fingerprint through a one week Basic FBI Course and/or an AFIS training course with certificate is desirable.

Current Latent Print Certification or Tenprint Fingerprint Certification issued by the International Association for Identification will substitute for the required training and experience.
